EndRot Borate Powder is an EPA registered insecticide and fungicide for the control of wood destroying insects and rot. Use EndRot Borate Powder in combination with the other System Three rot restoration products.

EndRot Borate Powder is a water-soluble white powder. It can be used dry or in solution to form an effective penetrating solution. There are no hazardous solvents and no odors. The active ingredient in EndRot Borate Powder, Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate, is a borate derivative that will not break down over time. Borates have been used as a safe and effective pest control for over 40 years and is a part of the System Three EndRot System for wood rot repair.

What is the EndRot System?

The EndRot System is a group of products developed for use in the repair of architectural wood components that have been damaged by rot fungus, insects, extreme weathering and abuse. Each product in the EndRot System can be used separately. When used together they are a complete and permanent solution for repairing damaged wood. When repaired with the EndRot System, wood is as good as new, ready to prime and paint.

The Process

Step 1

Excavate Punky Wood / Apply EndRot Borate Powder

Typically, rotted wood contains a significant amount of moisture. Removing the punky, rotted wood is an essential first step in the process.

In addition to removing unsound wood, it's also important to address the underlying problem. Treat the wood with EndRot Borate Powder to kill fungus and destroy the wood as a food source for insects.

Step 2

Apply RotFix Penetrating Epoxy

Apply RotFix penetrating epoxy within 5-10 minutes of mixing in order to seal the wood.

Brush a generous coat of RotFix over the affected area. Some wood substrates are very porous and will absorb the RotFix rapidly. A second coat may be necessary. More epoxy can be applied over wet or tacky RotFix.

Step 3

Apply SculpWood Putty / SculpWood Max Putty / Sculpwood Paste

Now it's time to replace the rotten wood that we removed. From small cracks to large voids, and from cosmetic to structural repairs, the SculpWood family of products has you covered.

With easy 1:1 mix ratios, simply mix up an appropriate amount of putty or paste to slightly overfill the area before coming back the next day to sand, prime, and paint. Good as new!

The EndRot System FAQ

Borates are water soluble, so how long they will stay effective in wood is entirely dependent on the amount of moisture exposure the wood will be subject too.

- Borate Powder is the First step in our EndRot System, and when properly sealed, the other Rot Repair components can remain effective in the wood for many years. When used on its own, it can wash away in a matter of months.

- Borate Rods are a good solution for long term protection of unsealed wood. When the wood is saturated, the borates slowly dissolve creating a toxic environment for rot causing organisms. As the wood dries out the borates are re-deposited in the wood. Depending on the amount of exposure, borate rods can remain effective for many years, even in unsealed wood.

As a liquid solution, Board Defense covers 150 sq. ft. per gallon. When spread in powder form, Board Defense covers 40 sq. ft. per lbs.

EndRot Borate Powder is an insecticide, and fungicide that is highly toxic to wood-destroying organisms. The active ingredient in EndRot Borate Powder (boric acid) has low toxicity to mammals and will only be toxic if ingested in large quantities. Borates have been used as a safe and effective pest control for over 40 years and is a part of the System Three EndRot System for wood rot repair.
