General Information:
Consult with a structural engineer when dealing with critical structural applications.

Substrate Preparation:
Excavate Punky Wood
Typically, rotted wood contains a significant amount of moisture. Removing the punky, rotted wood is an essential first step in the process. Not only is excess moisture removed, but better substrate stability is established to begin the repair. If possible, remove the punky wood down to the point of good wood.
Applying EndRot Borate Powder
Apply EndRot Borate Powder to the repair area. Add the EndRot Borate Powder at 1.5 Tbsp. per 1 ounce of water, for an approximate coverage of 1 sq. ft². Thoroughly saturate the affected area with EndRot Borate Powder solution.
After applying the EndRot Borate Powder solution, the wood substrate will have elevated moisture levels. Allow at least one hour for the EndRot Borate solution to dry. If the substrate is not completely dry after one hour, you can use a hair dryer or heat gun to force dry.
Apply RotFix Penetrating Epoxy
Measure by volume two parts Resin (Part A) with one part Hardener (Part B) and thoroughly mix. Mix only enough RotFix penetrating epoxy that can be easily used in 5-10 minutes. Brush RotFix liberally over the wood substrate. Immediately apply SculpWood Max to the freshly applied, wet RotFix.
Coverage:
SculpWood Max comes in a variety of kit sizes. Calculate the cubic inches of the repair area (cubic inches= width x depth x length) to determine which kit size best meets your needs.
Kit Size | Cubic Inches |
2 Quart Kit | 115.5 |
2 Gallon Kit | 462 |
Measuring and Mixing:
Using disposable gloves, combine equal parts of SculpWood Max Resin (Part A) with Hardener (Part B). Knead the components together until the mixture is uniform in color. Initially, make a small batch. As you get familiar with the SculpWood Max, larger batches can follow.
Application:
Note: SculpWood Max is a fortified compound, which makes it difficult to machine. Therefore, avoid overfilling the repair area too much. The use of coarse sandpaper with a belt sander or random orbital sander works well for removing any excess putty.
Large repair areas may require the use of forms to contain SculpWood Max and prevent it from slumping. Smooth plywood or particleboard covered in clear packing tape or Tyvek house wrap tape produces a simple, non-stick surface for easy release.
Apply SculpWood Max
Pack the SculpWood Max into the cavity, avoiding gaps and air pockets. Slightly overfill the cavity with SculpWood Max. Additional layers can be added if the epoxy is still soft and pliable. If SculpWood Max has hardened, abrade the surface with coarse sandpaper and apply a coat of RotFix Epoxy. Apply SculpWood Max to the wet, RotFix coated surface.
SculpWood Max can be sanded in 5-8 hours (at 70°F (21°C). Colder temperatures will extend the cure time, while warmer temperatures will reduce the cure time. Abrade with a sanding block and 80-100 grit paper. Belt sanders or random orbital sanders can also be used.
Apply Oil Or Waterbase Primer And Paint
After sanding SculpWood Max, you can apply either an oil or water-based primer/paint. Apply the primer and paint according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Cleanup:
Use lacquer thinner, denatured alcohol, or white vinegar for cleanup of uncured material.
